Frequently Asked Questions

Q. The EMPYRE uses 304 grade stainless steel. Is the inner and outer water jacket made from this high grade stainless steel

A. Yes, all of our furnaces use the 304 grade stainless steel. NO mild steel is used on the water jacket

Q. I have hot water heat in my house now, can I use the EMPYRE to heat my home?

A. Yes, we can hook up to existing hot water heating systems....call us for more info.

Q. Can I do the installation myself?

A. Yes, we will provide you information you need and assemble some of the part for you.

Q. Why is 304 grade stainless steel better than 409 stainless steel?

A. 409 grade stainless steel has more alloys in it and is much cheaper to buy than the 304 that we use. A magnet will not stick to 304 stainless steel, where it will stick to 409.

Q. How often do I have to light the fire?

A. Once per heating season.

Q. How often do I clean the ashes from the pan?

A. Usually every 2-3 weeks, depending on what type of wood you are burning.

Q. Do I have to put out the fire in order to clean the ashes out?

A. No, simply slide out the removeable ash pan.

Q. What kind of water pipe do I use inside the house?

A. We use Kitec Pipe.

Q. Will the square tubing creating the grate in the bottom of the firebox warp?

A. No, the tubing is open ended and is therefore filled with water so that they will not warp.

Q. How far down do you bury the insulated pipe with the Kitec water pipes inside?

A. As a general rule you only need a 2ft trench. Our pipe provides an excellant insulation for the water pipes. We would recommend more if heavy vehicles were going to be driving over the pipes.

Q. Do you need to put more water into the furnace during the heating season? If so, how often do you need to put water in the furnace?

A. Since our system is not under pressure, you will need to "top" it up, NOT fill it, once during the heating season.

Q. How much wood will you burn during the heating season for an average size home?

A. Approximately 4-5 bush cord.
